Calling On Supporters To Write To The Press

Below is a letter sent to RSC from Mark Tan. This is a very good letter, short and won't take more than 10 minutes of your time to draft and send out to the Press. Every letter like this makes a lot of difference to the animals.

So please help us help the animals by writing such a letter concerning the barbaric acts by the Ipoh council officers towards a poor, helpless, stray dog (for full story read posts below)

Once you have drafted your letter, just key in the following addresses and with one click of the mouse you have done your part for the animals. Thank you and thanks Mark!

Send to : editor@nanyang.com.my, editor@sinchew.com.my, newscentre@chinapress.com.my, kmtan@guangming.com.my,kualalumpur@kwongwah.com.my, metro@orientaldaily.com.my, am@hmetro.com.my, pengarang@utusan.com, news@nstp.com.my, bhnews@bharian.com.my, editor@thestar.com.my, editor@malaysiakini.com

TIME FOR STERN ACTION

The recent shooting of a stray in front of students trully disgusted me , however whats more disgusting is the lack of action taken against those responsible for such an appalling and dangerous act.

I have read over the years of numerous shootings of stray and even licensed dogs in Ipoh and after a week or so the story is forgotten until another family loses their pet to the cruel and bad aim of Ipohs famous dog shooters.

This so called principal seems to be lacking proper judgment by calling in dog shoters to a school and therefore i think she is not qualified to sit in her post as she did place the students under her direct care in danger.

It also surprised me in an article in the Star that she was upset and unavailable for conmment..what was your princple upset about? That she did not get the pleasure of witnessing the act herself? or that the animal did not suffer enough?

The Press should publish the name of the school and the name of its principal.

Lets not wait for another act of cruelty. I would like to call on all parents , students and the citizens of Ipoh..those who have a heart anyway to call for the immediate sacking of this principal as a lesson for all future thoughtless and inhuman people.

Disiplinary action also must be taken on the shooters for their insensivity in front of school students.

Mark Tan.

I read from the Stars today that Ipoh is going to stop shooting strays. They are going to replace bullets with Tranquilizers instead. I hope the other states will follow soon.

Hi, I've sent out letters as well myself however they were undelivered to Utusan and Sin Chew for some odd reason. Anyhow, o hope our letters would make a difference in the long run and save our poor animals!

Thanks Sharlene for the update. I've since sent a letter to the STAR and it was published today Friday Oct 20, 2006. I've posted the letter on the blog.

Thanks also Discovery for your letters to the Press. Of course, it helps! Every letter helps, whether published or not.

It's your letters guys that are keeping the story in the news and getting the Mayor and SPCA to comment. Now because of you that dog is not going to be just some statistic people can sweep under the carpet. Thanks Dis-covery.

Thanks to Mark and Steph and all the others who have written too. I'll check on the email addresses to which your letters sent bounced back, Steph. I'll phone the Press offices and find out if the addresses are correct.

    Hi Punisher2,

Thanks for your comments. I don't agree however that race plays a part in one's interaction with animals, although the general outlook may be so.

For eg. the numerous phone calls to DVS to rescue Sheena came from a Malay lady. When the local council shot a stray dog (I can't remember which State in Malaysia) and did not kill it, a Malay lady from Shah Alam hired a van and drove down to look for the injured dog. She found it and sent it to the vet. Then when it got well, she had the dog adopted.

The Islamic Party of Malaysia or PAS came forward to help Mr Eng when the Seremban Municipal shot his dogs.

The United Arab Emirates has strong laws protecting animals equal to Western Standards.

China itself has a terrible record of animal abuse (do a search on this blog "China fur trade"). But there are individual Chinese who are truly heroes and angels sent from heaven to protect animals. One young Chinese lady puts her life at risks protecting tigers. The underworld are angry she has upset their tiger trade and so are after her but she doesn't care.

Another Chinese lady in China opened up an animal shelter and lovingly takes care of many dogs and cats abandoned by their owners.

There are kind people who show care and love for animals from all races and religions. It's just that the newspapers dont highlight the positive stories.

It is time for the kind people to take control and tell our stories to the media to educate others that they are not alone in wanting to help animals.

    Hi Punisher 2,

    I understand absolutely your frustration.

And there is of course, a lot of truth to what you say. The shooting of Mr Eng's dogs for instance is an attestation to that truth.

There is this funny thing about Truth. When it is no longer hidden it is more powerful than all the seductive wiles of evil.

Man can carry on starving his dog or the municipal council cold-bloodedly killing dogs without batting an eyelid when Truth is silent.

But when confronted with the Truth by decent people who refuse to remain silent or "look the other way" it becomes harder for these people to carry on with their wicked ways.

Believe me, there are more kind souls out there than you think. I found that they are just frustrated because they didn't think they could achieve anything by "speaking up".

Thanks to movements like PETA, Jill Robinson's work to save the bears, Nature Alert, actress Daryl Hannah, the Furry Friends Farm and of course RSC (heh heh) and many more out there who have decided to speak up on behalf of our furry and feathered friends we are seeing a marked improvement in the lives of animals.

Just by talking to your friends and family about animal welfare, signing RSC's Petition, writing to the Press, even leaving a comment on RSC's blog, you are doing something positive for animals.

So thank you Punisher 2. You are a tremendous blessing to all animals, probably more than you'll ever know :)
